Bersano stops PK, shuts out Indiana in 3rd Mack Brady Game

What an amazing weekend! Sunday was the Third Annual Mack Brady Game as Penn State took on No. 10 ranked Indiana. A great team with multiple national titles behind them, Penn State had kept Indiana scoreless for over 400 minutes. Before the game Coach Warming told me “It’s like we have poked a hornets nest 5 or 6 times with a hockey stick. They are going to start swarming and come after us.” Well they did and how! In the 13th minute Indiana was given a PK. They took their marks, Matt Bersano looked loose and ready, the shooter opened up, stepped forward to the ball, and Bersano, diving to his left made an incredible save. Needless to say the crowd went wild!

Later many would tell us that Mack was with us and Matt. While I know that he is, indeed, always with us, Matt our our bhoys in blue did an amazing job on the day. In the 70th minute transfer Robbie Sagel put the ball in the net off a free kick from Brian James. The score held 1-0 PSU! In the most recent poll PSU MSOC is now ranked #10 (and Indiana dropped to #22). A well deserved ranking and a great start to our run at a B1G title!

We want to thank everyone for coming and supporting the Mack Brady Fund. The parents of our PSU MSOC team put on a great tailgate, we sold many of the new GKU shirts (but more remain! just $10), we have a good number of pre-orders for the gloves (first order goes in by the end of September), and over $1000 raised for the fund.

Most importantly, we were joined by all of our Penn State Goalkeepers at halftime as we honored Connor Darcey. Connor was our LAX keeper who died this summer in a car accident. It was a great example of the Penn State community and the GKU supporting our larger family. Thank you all for participating. The Penn Stater magazine had a nice note about the event, “All About the Goalkeepers.”

There were a number of other very nice stories about the weekend.
